Much like the rise of buy online, pickup in-store (BOPIS) and curbside pickup, same-day delivery is surging. In fact, t<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">he market for \u202flocal \u202flast mile in the US is growing 32% per year according to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grandviewresearch.com\/\">Grand View Research<\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> \u2013 two times faster than ecommerce projections \u2013 as same-day deliveries become the standard.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6547\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rithum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/2-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"769\" height=\"377\" \/>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In early 2021, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bringg.com\/resources\/white-papers-and-ebooks\/barometer-state-of-retail-delivery-fulfillment\/\">37% of retailers \u202fhad same-day delivery, and 30% planned to add it by the end of the year<\/a>. This makes clear that fast delivery is now a strategic necessity for every company that wants more online market share<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:450,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Retailers are having to adapt to better meet consumers\u2019 growing preference for online shopping and their demand for fast, reliable fulfillment. In an August 2020 Digital Commerce 360\/Bizrate Insights survey of 1,141 online shoppers, 21% said they ordered same-day delivery from Amazon while 14% selected the same-day option from retailers with bricks-and-mortar stores. The number of consumers selecting same-day delivery is on the rise and will only continue.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:450,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalcommerce360.com\/2021\/03\/16\/online-shoppers-demand-same-day-delivery\/\">Digital Commerce 360 article<\/a>, Rithum\u2019s Senior Vice President of Strategy, Erik Morton, says, \u201cIf Amazon can do same-day delivery, then other retailers need to do it as well. Same-day delivery is something that traditional brick-and-mortar retailers should be spending money on and investing in\u2014absolutely.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>What to do if you\u2019re not Amazon\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Retailers continue to deal with an influx of online orders that has put more pressure on their delivery logistics, specifically how to meet delivery promises as carriers also try to keep up with increased delivery demand.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-6546 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rithum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"437\" height=\"391\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">To alleviate some of this pressure, retailers are partnering with same-day delivery companies to ensure fast delivery. Many now offer same-day delivery through Instacart, DoorDash and Postmates, an Uber Technologies subsidiary. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This gives retailers the ability to move beyond store-based fulfillment and explore new digital services to give consumers shopping online more options for faster delivery. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Collaborating on the last leg of delivery with same-day delivery companies can increase efficiency and improve the customer experience.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">For example, retailers can use Uber Direct, a delivery platform for retail items, to help fulfill deliveries in the last few miles of their journey. Many times, a package does make it to the warehouse closest to the customer, but getting the order from the warehouse to them in the \u201clast miles\u201d can prove to be difficult. This is where a service like Uber Direct can make sure that customers get their items as soon as possible. Partnerships like this would by no means replace the need for larger delivery resources with carriers, but it is a viable option for retailers to help ensure on-demand orders can be delivered successfully.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">And the momentum around providing same-day delivery options continues to grow. The most recent sign of this is DoorDash\u2019s \u202fannouncement of its<a href=\"https:\/\/www.retaildive.com\/news\/doordash-plans-to-offer-rapid-delivery-for-retailers\/611028\/\"> DashMart virtual convenience store brand<\/a>. DoorDash plans to rely on a team of full-time couriers to provide ultra-fast delivery. DoorDash will eventually offer this as a service to retailers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">On-demand delivery services help retailers achieve more rapid fulfillment closer to a customer\u2019s location.
